Les primaires conservatrices de 183 sont le processus par lequel les membres et sympathisants du Parti Conservateur de Fédération-Unie désignent leur candidat à l’élection présidentielle de 183.

Elles sont nettement remportées par Nancy Chapman, Secrétaire d’État.

Contexte

Le Parti Conservateur sort de huit années sous la Présidence de James McCarthy. Majoritaires durant toute la période au Sénat, ils ne sont toutefois majoritaires à la Chambre que dans les quatre dernières années.

Les grandes réformes conservatrices sont donc menées durant le deuxième mandat du Président McCarthy, avec le soutien d’un Congrès avec deux chambres à majorité conservatrice.

Constitutionnellement, James McCarthy n’est pas autorisé à concourir pour un troisième mandat et les primaires doivent donc déterminer l’identité du conservateur chargé de le remplacer.
